The Pilgrim Path---Second Kings 6: 15 – 17
When the servant of the man of God rose early in the morning and went out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was all around the city. And the servant said, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?”
He said, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”
Then Elijah prayed and said, “O LORD, please open his eyes that he may see.” So, the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
“…OPEN HIS EYES THAT HE MAY SEE”
This lovely account reminds us that the Follower of Jesus Christ is never alone. We may not see the protection the LORD has provided---but He cares for His Own. Additionally, we must recall in victory---even with use of appointed means---we never deliver ourselves. To hear some Christians: they have gotten so far in life because they are so brilliant---they are so industrious---they are so savvy---they are so strong---they are so everything…they hardly even have a need for Jesus Christ at all…This is so foolish---and a terrible testimony…
Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness! Psalm 115: 1
FROM J. C. RYLE: No sin is so deeply rooted in our nature as pride. It cleaves to us like our skin.
FROM ALAN REDPATH: Pride is the idolatrous worship of ourselves, and that is the national religion of hell.
