The Pilgrim Path (12-5-2020)

The Pilgrim Path---Revelation 17: 14

They will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is LORD of LORDS and King of Kings, and those with him are called and chosen and faithful.

THE LAMB will Conquer…

You always need to have the big picture in view. Jesus came the first time (Advent). The LORD Jesus is coming again--- in power and great glory. Real shalom is coming (complete wholeness). The presence of evil will vanish. Our very inclination “to do” other than what is pleasing to God---will be eradicated. The Lamb will conquer His enemies (any that yet oppose His Word and His Ways). A New Heaven and A New Earth will be ushered in---better than any Christmas we have ever known. And the LORD will be the light of that glorious domain---all by His superlative and marvelous presence. Not just that---as Henry Scougal used to say---“the very Life of God in our soul by the power of the Gospel,” will have transformed all the inhabitants of Paradise! We look forward to that Marriage Feast of the Lamb. We live---in the certain hope of that Gospel Reality--- right now. That is why,

We can serve now…

We can give now…

We can pray in faith believing now…

We can forgive now…

We can endure suffering now…

We can sacrifice now…

We can be longsuffering now…

We can begin to delight in the things of God now…

We can love now…

AND the BEST is yet to come…

HYMN

Infant holy, infant lowly, for his bed a cattle stall;

Oxen lowing, little knowing Christ, the babe, is LORD of all.

Swift are winging angels singing, noels ringing, tidings bringing:

Christ the babe is LORD of all. Christ the babe is LORD of all.

Flocks were sleeping keeping vigil till the morning new

Saw the glory, heard the story, tidings of a gospel true.

Thus rejoicing, free from sorrow, praises voicing, greet the morrow:

Christ the babe was born for you. Christ the babe was born for you.

POLISH CAROL / Paraphrased by Edith M. G. Reed, ca. 1925

PRAYER from AUGUSTINE of Hippo (354—430)

O God, the light of every heart that sees thee,

The Light of every soul that loves thee,

The strength of every mind that seeks thee,

Grant me ever to continue steadfast in thy holy love.

Be thou the joy of my heart;

Take it all to thyself, and therein abide.

The house of my soul is, I confess, too narrow for thee;

Do enlarge it, that thou mayest enter in;

It is ruinous, but do thou repair it.

It has that within which must offend thine eyes;

I confess and know it;

But whose help shall I implore in cleansing it,

But thine alone?

To thee, therefore I cry urgently,

Begging that thou wilt cleanse me from my secret faults,

And keep thy servant from presumptuous sins,

That they never get dominion over me. AMEN.
