The Pilgrim Path (3/28/2020)

The Pilgrim Path---The Gospel of Mark 1: 16 -20

Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fisherman. And Jesus said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men." And immediately they left their nets and followed him. And going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were in their boat mending the nets. And immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants and followed him.

---Jesus really called them---they really followed---and they remained as His disciples

---When He calls, He takes first place...

---These men were not extraordinary---but they were following the Extraordinary One

---"Not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble are called. But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise, and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty" ( I Corinthians 1: 26, 27).

---In my seminary graduating class: former high school principal, circuit judge, ex-pimp, account executive, mechanic, ex-drug dealer, realtor, builder, oil & gas executive, carpenter, sales manager, etc.---those whom God "called"---no other explanation...

---All Christians "go" cast the net for souls---Spurgeon said:"Our business is not to entice a fish to swallow the bait but to cast the net all around us and lift sinners out of the element in which they lie, into the boat where Christ is..."

---Pray for our buddy, The Rev. Ben Ratliff---he has a new job as the Assistant Pastor of the Covenant Presbyterian Church, Cleveland, Mississippi. This is a great position for he and Caitlin (and Eliza and Charlotte). May the Lord pour out His Spirit upon them in a most manifest way!!!

---Tremendous word from the late Dr. Peter Marshall: The preacher is conscious of being "called," as we say, and that means that he is responding to an inward urge that could not be resisted...an urge that grew out of a providential arrangement of his life and his circumstances to the great end that he should become an ambassador of the Chief---an urge that grew into a conviction that only by obeying could he ever find that joy and satisfaction of a life lived according to the plan of God...God brought Moses from minding the sheep...He took Amos from the herds of Tekoa...He beckoned Peter, James, and John from the fishing boats and their nets...And called Livingston from the mill in Blantyre, Scotland. He called Carey from his cobbler's bench...He claimed Moody from the shoe store. From the mills, the factory, and the farm they come...From the ranks of mediocrity, or the gutters of sin He calls them...changes them...and makes them His messengers. The true minister is in his pulpit not because he has chosen that profession as an easy means of livelihood, but because he could not help it, because he has obeyed an imperious summons that will not be denied. Such was my tap on the shoulder...

---Please pray for "all" Gospel ministers

Grace & Peace in Jesus Our LORD, Pastor Jason
