The Pilgrim Path (1—1—23)

The Pilgrim Path---Matthew 11: 16 – 19

But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to their playmates,

“We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.”

For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, “He has a demon.” The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, “Look at him! A glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!” Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds.

“WISDOM IS JUSTIFIED BY HER DEEDS”

The Savior points out that the children can get upset when their playmates do not play with them---the way they want! Interesting. John the Baptist---and Jesus, were “playing” the melody of the Kingdom of God in their preaching and teaching---and many ignored them. Hmmm---spiritual matters---matter. They are no game. As we start 2023, we need to resolve that Christ and His Word (and His Church) will be of utmost importance in our lives. We may begin the year by expressing our gratitude to the LORD Jesus Christ for the fact that HE truly is the friend of sinners!

Remember---in the pathway of obedience to Jesus, you will find JOY…May texts like Matthew 6:33, Ephesians 4:32, Romans 14: 17, and Matthew 28: 19, 20---“carry us” in the New Year!

“Love is a self-renouncing, not a self-exalting principle---a self-denying, not a self-aggrandizing principle.” John Duncan
