The Pilgrim Path (1—11—23)

The Pilgrim Path---First Timothy 2: 5, 6 (1—11—23)

For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

“WHO GAVE HIMSELF”

Do you ever seem to have these wrestling matches with your SELF? You cannot get away from some gnawing preoccupation to, “make a call” or “arrange a visit” or “prepare a gift” or “engage in a new endeavor of service”---not previously planned on? Seems the Holy Spirit will plant a seed within the depth of our being and will not leave us alone (Romans 8: 14). Promptings that involve sacrifice for Jesus’ glory---and the benefit of others---simply need to be yielded to in an expeditious manner.

From John Chrysostom: Jesus died for such thankless, wrong-headed creatures! This is what stuns every mind with astonishment. What we wouldn’t do for our fellow humans, God has done for us! Yet even after this demonstration of love towards us, we hold back, and aren’t serious in our love for Christ. He sacrificed Himself for us; yet we make no sacrifice for Him.

From John Bunyan: I am sure the greatest sins have been committed by the greatest saints. The mighty have as much need of an advocate as the youngest and most feeble of the flock.
