The Pilgrim Path---Matthew 7: 1 – 5 (10-4-2023)

Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.

“THE MEASURE YOU USE…”

The Lord Jesus could really paint the pictures. This is one of His most enduring images. He captures my tendency to want to find and remove that speck in the eye of another (I must deal with their sin). I would have to get close to you to see a speck in your eye. If I don’t get that close, I’ll have to make some assumptions about you, and then I’m so prone to mischaracterization and misrepresentation. The Living Christ tells me to save myself some valuable time. He tells me to spend far more time dealing with sin in my own life (log removal).

I live in a merciless age. I need (we all need) the Holy Spirit’s power to be a vessel of God’s favor when conveying the Message of The Lord’s Ultimate Reality.

From Jack Miller: Jesus wants to deliver you from the blindness that makes you unable to see your own sin and prone to judge others. Blindness to your own sin leads you to think that youare righteous enough to condemn people and cast them out.
