The Pilgrim Path (2—26—24)

The Pilgrim Path---Second Chronicles 21: 4 – 7, 20 (2—26—24)

When Jehoram had ascended the throne of his father and was established, he killed all his brothers with the sword, and also some of the princes of Israel. Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as the house of Ahab had done, for the daughter of Ahab was his wife. And he did what was evil in the sight of the LORD. Yet the LORD was not willing to destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and since he had promised to give a lamp to him and to his sons forever…He was thirty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. And he departed with no one’s regret. They buried him in the city of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.

“…EVIL IN THE SIGHT OF THE LORD”

Leaders lead. They lead toward Hell, or they lead toward Heaven. King Jehoram was an agent of darkness: self-absorbed, self-serving, and self-seeking. The kingdom paid a hefty price for his idolatry. The way to stay out of the darkness is to run toward the light.

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8: 12

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5: 14 – 16
