The Pilgrim Path (3—10—23)

The Pilgrim Path---Psalm 42: 9 – 11 (3—10—23)

I say to God, my rock: “Why have you forgotten me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?”

As with a deadly wound in my bones, my adversaries taunt me, while they say to me all the day long, “Where is your God?”

Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.

“…WHY ARE YOU IN TURMOIL WITHIN ME?”

We must be careful. King David reminds us that we have some tough terrain to contend with: our unguarded mind, our circumstances, the crusading anti-God forces around us, the carousing characters that compel us from TV---and every social media platform imaginable, AND---the latest “craze” may tell us we are missing out---IF we sell out, to the Ever Living One---Jesus!

The Holy Spirit’s exhortation through David is always needed: “Hope in God---look in confident expectation to Jesus Christ, HIS Word and HIS ways!” We cannot simply listen to SELF. I am constantly reminded of this by Charles Haddon Spurgeon, Martyn Lloyd-Jones, and Jack Miller. The message is, “listen to the LORD Jesus---and the record of his grace and guidance---as recorded within Holy Scripture.” Hear and Obey---Listen and learn…

From Christopher Love: It is not God nor the devil that cast thee down; but Why dost thou cast thyself down? To create more trouble on thy self than either God doth inflict or the devil tempt thee to…

From William Gurnall: Faith tells the soul what Christ hath done for it, and so comforts it; hope revives the soul with the news of what Christ will do: both draw at one tap---Christ and his promise.

From Geoffrey Thomas: Let the Word break over your heart and mind again and again as the years pass, and imperceptibly there will come great changes in your attitude and outlook and conduct. You will probably be the last to recognize these. Often you will feel very, very small, because increasingly the God of the Bible will become to you wonderfully great.
