The Pilgrim Path (3—20—23)

The Pilgrim Path---Proverbs 21: 23 (3—20—23)

“Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble.”

“…OUT OF TROUBLE”

At the trial of Jesus, his accusers could not produce terrible words with which to indict him. All they could do was twist his conversations and misrepresent his teaching. Well---the record of my speech would not stand that test! My mouth has often gotten me into considerable trouble. The Holy Spirit is simply telling us in this passage to be aware of the “keeping” that is essential. It is required all day---everyday. And---by our mouths we speak “for” or “against” the Living Christ. As the Old Country Preachers used to tell us, “What is down in the well---comes up in the bucket!” The heart is the dynamo driving the words and lips---So, matters are not as they should be---If--- we are doing damage with our tongues. Help US Holy Spirit to be yielded to King Jesus---and to watch the use of this vital organ. Help US resolve to bring life as we speak…

From St. Jerome (347 – 420): Christ’s soldier goes marching on through praise on the right hand, blame on the left. Applause doesn’t thrill him; criticism doesn’t crush him. He isn’t lifted up by riches, nor depressed by poverty. He treats joy and sorrow with equal disdain. The sun doesn’t smite him by day nor the moon by night.

From Jack Miller: Pray and let God work in your heart to dig out all that’s wrong and clothe you in love. Jesus got dirty with our sins; he shed real blood for your real sin. He will help you to forgive as you have been forgiven, to hate sin and love righteousness, and find peace in Jesus.
