The Pilgrim Path (3—31—23)

The Pilgrim Path---Psalm 105: 38 – 45 (3—31—23)

Egypt was glad when they departed, for dread of them had fallen upon it.

He spread a cloud for a covering, and fire to give light by night.

They asked, and he brought quail, and gave bread from heaven in abundance.

He opened the rock, and water gushed out; it flowed through the desert like a river.

For he remembered his holy promise, and Abraham, his servant. So he brought his people out with joy, his chosen ones with singing. And he gave them the lands of the nations, and took possession of the fruit of the peoples’ toil, that they might keep his statues and observe his laws.

Praise the LORD!

“…THAT THEY MIGHT KEEP HIS STATUTES”

The awesome Covenant God did incredible things for HIS people as HE delivered them from Egypt. He conducted some deadly transactions (Passover / Red Sea). He does amazing things for US---in delivering US from Hell and the power of sin---by the bloody cross-work of HIS Holy Son Jesus. Now, is all this done---so we might simply live as we please? Certainly not (Romans 6: 1, 2). Redemption is accomplished and applied, in order that we would walk in HIS paths (Psalm 105: 45). The Beloved Apostle John would put it this way: “So we would walk even as Jesus walked” (First John 2: 6). We are always about the “business” of coming out of the shadows---or as John Bunyan would say, “making sure we are on the straight and narrow.” Help Us Holy Spirit to keep in step with the Spirit---and to walk even as Jesus walked…

From Joel Beeke: Walking as Christ walked means the following: Making Jesus’ priorities your own by faith / Delighting in God’s law / Having compassion for others / Repaying evil with good / Acting in love---HE loves sinners of every type, draws them to himself, and invites them to cast all their needs and sins upon him. Above all, Jesus loves his Father…You may shrink at the thought of comparing yourself with Jesus. You are too aware of sin and shortcomings in your life to make such a claim. Yet is there within you a small beginning of obedience, of Christlikeness? Is your life bent toward Christ?
