The Pilgrim Path (3—6—24)

The Pilgrim Path---Romans 6: 10 – 12 (3—6—24)

For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions.

“…CONSIDER YOURSELVES DEAD TO SIN”

Our mind can easily tilt toward the world and the flesh. The old man (outside of Christ) has views that are alluring and tempting. The devil does know how to advertise, and our flesh knows how to make excuses. The Apostle Paul tells us to preach to ourselves: “I am dead to sin---and I am a Disciple of Christ Jesus!” Jonathan Edwards used to say that the human will is the mind choosing. As a follower of Jesus, ask the Holy Spirit’s divine support throughout the day to choose for Jesus. You will be so extremely glad!

From Thomas Brooks: O Christian, look upon sin as dead! It is not to be obeyed, and not to be acknowledged. The Lord Jesus has given sin a mortal wound by his death and Spirit, and by the communication of grace to the soul. Thus sin shall never recover its strength and shall die a lingering death in the souls of the saints…Though for a time it may flourish, it may have leaves and fruit, yet it secretly dies, and will very shortly wither and perish. Christ did not die all at once upon the cross, so also the slaying of sin is gradual in the souls of the saints…Therefore, cheer up O weak souls, for certainly sin that is thus slain can never provoke Jesus Christ to give you a bill of divorce…
