The Pilgrim Path (4---19---23)

The Pilgrim Path---Psalm 63: 1 – 3 (4---19---23)

O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.

So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary; beholding your power and glory.

Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you.

“…MY LIPS WILL PRAISE YOU”

What a jolt from the Church Wide Bible Reading! Here is a man who needs God. The LORD is no occasional personage with whom David makes a connection. No---David must have God! He yearns for Him---Jehovah-Jesus. Without Him, I am nothing (John 15: 5). Do you feel this? Do I need Him like a thirsty soul needs water? I hope I do…If I do not faint for Him---invariably, I only live to be a faultfinder. Interestingly, David says in his earnest seeking of God, “my mouth will bring you praise” (verse 3). Here’s a pastoral note: there is almost always a seeking problem---when there is a speaking problem. Pray and ponder. God help us All!

From Samuel Rutherford: There is much in our Lord’s pantry that will satisfy his children, and much wine in his cellar that will quench all their thirst. Hunger for him until he fills you. He is pleased with the importunity of hungry souls. If he delays, do not go away, but fall a-swoon at his feet. Every day we may see some new thing in Christ…
