The Pilgrim Path (4—14—23)

The Pilgrim Path---Lamentations 3: 6, 7, 22 --- 26 (4—14—23)

He has made me dwell in darkness like the dead of long ago.

He has walled me about so that I cannot escape; he has made my chains heavy…

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;

They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

“The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”

The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.

It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.

“WAIT QUIETLY…”

The Holy Spirit enables the Believer to come to grips with dark times. Jeremiah had a long, jarring ministry. He faced periods when he thought God was gone. Our senses do not measure the truth with accuracy. We confuse ourselves. We must be captive to The Word---and not our feelings---or our circumstances (help me LORD). The LORD Jesus Christ is at the right hand of the Father---as the Champion of our eternal good (Lamentations 3: 58). We look in confident expectation to Him. When we fall---He helps us up. Waiting is part of our sanctification...

From Thomas Case: Make more haste to be taught than to be delivered. And choose to have your afflictions sanctified more than removed.

From Charles Haddon Spurgeon: God’s time is always the best time. To deliver us just now might deprive us of the benefit of the trouble. We must bear it until it produces “the peaceful fruit of righteousness” (Hebrews 12: 11).
