The Pilgrim Path---Psalm 116: 15

Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.

“PRECIOUS”

My first funeral service was a graveside in 1977. There have been quite a few since. I have stood on wind swept hill sides listening to “taps.” I have gathered with family and friends under a “tent” when the heat of July in Mississippi-- would make you perspire---simply walking from your car. I believe the largest service I participated in, was for a 25-year-old DEA Officer killed in the Branch Davidian raid from Waco, Texas. 1,200 at that service. What a tragedy. He belonged to Jesus---but you still ask many questions at the time. The LORD is working “all” things after the counsel of HIS own will (Ephesians 1: 11).

This text from Psalm 116 will make you reflect. The LORD considers it precious---when one of His Own leaves this world for the next. Meditate on that for a while. I cannot give you all HIS reasons why “their” death is precious---but you might consider these:

---Their death is but a passage to HIM

---Their Savior bought them---now HE wants them

---Their faith is “ready” to become sight

---They are coming Home

---Their Battle is over

---They have faced “enough” in this world

---Their rewards await them

---Their soulmates are awaiting them

---Their place before the Lamb---No one else can fill

---Their “dwelling” was prepared by Jesus the LORD (the finest home)

---They have service w/o weariness ahead

---They have an infinite God to learn from

---Their very inclination to sin---will disappear

---They are on a path of complete redemption: body / soul / spirit---HE will achieve it!

---Their Savior wants them to “see” HIS Glory (this—will bless them)

“Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.” John 17: 24
