The Pilgrim Path---Ephesians 4: 29

Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

“…GRACE TO THOSE WHO HEAR”

We do a lot of talking. Please remember there are more than enough people who will accuse, assail, assume the worst, attack, castigate, damn, denigrate, gossip, slander, judge, lie---and cunningly misinform with their words. The Precious Holy Spirit reminds us, “speak what is appropriate. Bring grace into the equation---God’s grace through Jesus.” We have an obligation as the followers of Christ to add grace to what people hear. Have mercy on us LORD!

From Jack Miller: I’ve met some people who are pretty good haters and who’ve worked hard to cultivate their anger and bitterness. But if you love them---and not only love them, but like them---this can be a new way to reach them for Christ. Ask God to give you a positive image of what that person is going to be as you pray for them and work with them in love as God works with them. Pray to get rid of your negative image of that person as one who can’t change. Be as interested in what’s happening to them as what’s happened to you. Don’t simply try to keep from saying bad things, but think through and plan how you can say affirming things…

“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.” Psalm 19: 14

Prayer from Tim Keller: Lord, I am so grateful that you don’t make us guess who you are but that you speak directly to us. But if the Word is going to be sweet and life-giving to me, I must let it examine, search, and warn me. Help me have the discipline and faith to let it do that in my life. Amen.
