The Pilgrim Path---First John 3: 2

Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.

“…GOD’S CHILDREN NOW”

Right now, the followers of The Christ are Sons and Daughters of God. Joint heirs with Jesus. We do not always sense that we are (we may be sleep deprived). We do not always look like Heaven’s best (Nor’easter wind and rain may have changed our finest mirror moments). We get irritated with people (as the late Warren Wiersbe used to say---we may have used up what little religion we possessed with one or two folks). But we must remember: The Sovereign LORD of time and eternity has fastened us to His Son everlastingly. The blood of The Righteous One covers our transgressions and empowers us to walk His ways. Now we are the Children of God. We fall. He prompts us with the grace of repentance. We rise by His mercy, and we press on. Help us Sweet Spirit of God to live “out” of this biblical reality.

From Hugh Martin: Already in a measure we are like him as he was, for already, by faith we can in a measure see him as he was, full of grace and truth, meek and lowly of heart. Our being like him as he was, through regeneration and indwelling of the Spirit, accounts for our being able to see him as he was, and also for the world not knowing us, even as it knew him not. We are like him as he was spiritually in the hidden essence of our higher, heavenly character, the hidden man of the heart. We are like him as he was outwardly, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief, a root out of a dry ground, having no form nor comeliness, rejected, and despised of men, our spiritual character indiscernible to the world, our outward estate accepted in disproof of our heavenly rank. Still, having not seen him as he is, we love him…But we shall be transformed into his image after another manner, not of what he was bearing the cross and despising shame, but of what he is wearing the crown and shining in glory. At death, our souls shall be made perfect in holiness. At the resurrection he shall fashion these vile bodies like unto his own glorious body…

From Matthew Mead: The names of the greatest part of the world are written in the dust…We have title to all our Father’s riches and honors. God is our Father forever.
