The Pilgrim Path---Psalm 115: 1

Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness!

“…BUT TO YOUR NAME GIVE GLORY”

No endeavor of lasting soul-consequence occurs while we do it to promote ourselves. It is all about the LORD Jesus Christ and HIS honor.

From Thomas Manton: Self and God are the two things that come in competition. Now there are several sorts of self; there is carnal self, natural self, and glorified self; above all these God must have the preeminence.

From Charles Haddon Spurgeon: Even when we have had the undoubted help of the Holy Spirit, we are far too apt to attribute at least some little power to ourselves.

From Jack Miller: There will be no power in your life if you’re living for your own glory. I’ve experienced this myself. I thought I had faith, understood repentance, and knew the gospel, but the glory of God had never come to me. I’d never been empowered by falling on my face broken before the Lord and giving up my own ambition, honor, and glory. When I finally did fall on my face, I said, “I give myself to your glory.” I had never imagined the wonder and joy of tasting God’s glory. I was filled with joy and peace…

From John Duncan: The gospel is enlightening and enriching.
