The Pilgrim Path (9-5-2022)

The Pilgrim Path---Psalm 23: 2

He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me besides still waters.

“…STILL WATERS”

The reminder comes---“pray for Jackson, Mississippi.” Certainly. Just in case you had not noticed in the news---they have been enduring a terrible water crisis. A city of over four hundred thousand residents---without water (due to a collapsed water system). What horrors at a time when it is still hot down South! I noticed yesterday that almost “all” residents should have access to running now (that was not the case for a long time). BUT---a boil-water notice remains in effect. Wow---that is difficult. You typically do not appreciate water coming out of the tap---until it does not come out. Good News: Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba is working hand in hand with the Governor---to rectify this most tragic situation (you would call it that if you were in the midst of it). Please pray them through!

It is beautiful how the LORD Jesus Christ teaches the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s Well---that there is only one real water that will satisfy the human soul. HE is the soul quencher (check it out in John chapter 4). The Holy Spirit must enable you to understand this---otherwise you keep going to all the wrong “fountains” for refreshment.

“For my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water” Jeremiah 2: 13

From Thomas Case: Sin is also a twisted multiplied evil. It is a departure from the fountain of life and glory, and a turning to a broken vessel, which leaks out as fast as it is poured into.

From Samuel Rutherford: How sweet a thing were it for us to learn to make our burdens light by framing our hearts to the burden, and making our LORD’S will a law.
