The Pilgrim Path---Second Corinthians 9: 7 (1—20—23)
Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
“…A CHEERFUL GIVER”
One of the remarkable figures from my past is “Mr. Tom.” He was the treasurer of the Presbytery where I first joined the PCA. I’ve mentioned him previously. He owned an accounting firm---yet he lived about as simply as any soul I’ve ever met. He belonged to Jesus Christ---and he wanted as much of his resources going to “Kingdom endeavors” as he could funnel in that direction. It made him happy to promote the work of Jesus---and bless others in the Savior’s Name. He purposely drove cars “in the ground”---so he could give more to missions. He brown-bagged lunch at his desk---almost everyday of his working career, to give more to God’s work. It seemed fitting that his secretary “found” him after lunch---slumped in his chair: “Absent from the body---present with the LORD.”
From Hudson Taylor: The less I spent on myself and the more I gave to others, the fuller of happiness and blessing did my soul become.
From Matthew Henry: It ought to be the business of every day to prepare for our last day.
From Randy Alcorn: Only when we gain an eternal perspective will we eagerly follow our Lord’s command to devote our brief lives on earth to the pursuit of eternal treasure.
