The Pilgrim Path---First Chronicles 2: 10 – 16 

Ram fathered Amminadab, and Amminadab fathered Nahshon, prince of the sons of Judah. Nahshon fathered Salmon, Salmon fathered Boaz, Boaz fathered Obed, Obed fathered Jesse. Jesse fathered Eliab his firstborn, Abinadab the second, Shimea the third, Nethanel the fourth, Raddai the fifth, Ozem the sixth, David the seventh. And their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail. The sons of Zeruiah: Abishai, Joab, and Asahel, three.

“RAM FATHERED…”

Nestled in this genealogical record is the subtle indication that the LORD God Almighty does not forget anyone. HE keeps far more extensive archives than mankind has ever conceived of---or imagined (no problem whatsoever). A telling family note: David is the last son of Jesse---But what a legacy for King Jesus! A little boy that would grow up--- to be inspired by God to write at least half of the Psalms. A child that would end up showing us all---what real repentance looks like (Psalm 51). A Davidic descendant---reigns forever (Jesus Christ the LORD).

We never know about the LORD’S plans for these girls and boys around us. We pray remarkable things for each little one. We pray they will surpass us in devotion to the Living Christ. We pray they will not have near the struggles with idolatry--- that we have had. May many of them become like Amy Carmichael and Spurgeon---and be valiant in the land for the Kingdom of Jesus---and the good of souls!

Our children, Lord, in faith and prayer, we now devote to thee;

Let them thy covenant mercies share, and thy salvation see.

Such helpless babes thou didst embrace, while dwelling here below;

To us and ours, O God of grace, the same compassion show.

In early days their hearts secure from worldly snares, we pray;

O let them to the end endure in every righteous way.
