The Pilgrim Path (4—18—24)

The Pilgrim Path---Ezekiel 14: 12 – 16 (4—18—24)

And the word of the LORD came to me: “Son of man, when a land sins against me by acting faithlessly, and I stretch out my hand against it and brake its supply of bread and send famine upon it, and cut off from it man and beast, even if these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they would deliver but their own lives by their righteousness, declares the LORD God.

“If I cause wild beasts to pass through the land, and they ravage it, and it be made desolate, so that no one may pass through because of the beasts, even if these three men were in it, as I live, declares the LORD God, they would deliver neither sons nor daughters. They alone would be delivered, but the land would be desolate.

“THEIR OWN LIVES…”

Ezekiel’s age had to be reminded that a fine spiritual lineage was no substitute for individual love and devotion for the LORD God Almighty. The merciful and wonderful Savior and Master Jesus still declares: “Deny yourself, take up your cross---and follow me.” We plead with Him to have the Spirit work within us the soul-fabric of Noah, Daniel, and Job. He hears sincere petitions! Each day we consciously use prayer and the Holy Scripture to guide and inform our own sanctification---and we gather with other saints as often as possible to be strengthened in our Holy Faith. Ezekiel’s contemporaries did not care how they were living. King Jesus always desires we live for Him…

From Thomas Watson: The great design of God in his Word is to make us doers of his will. Doing the will of God is evidence of sincerity and our love for Christ.
